Mother Nature, Wheelie Bins, Bikes, Dick Togs, Outsourcing Pregnancy

Regular readers will have noticed that the Feb blog didn’t appear – the cyclone in North Queensland, the earthquake s in Christchurch and now Japan, not to mention the tsunami also in Japan has put a damper on my modest writing talents. It’s hard to be “light” when people are battered like this.
Post disaster in Queensland is now back to dreary politics and commercial greed. A fair percentage of people flooded have found their insurance doesn’t cover them.  I have had to point out to Premier Anna (Sell Queensland) Bligh and Lord Mayor of Bris-Venice, Campbell Newman (who both did well in the floods by the way), that my wheelie bin is a “has bin”.  It has a split which I’ve had to mend with duct (as in “fuct”) tape.  How bad is that?
It’s that time of year when we make resolutions.  This year, my resolution is “Simplify, focus and stay alive”.  No more stressing over consulting – I am only going to stress over earning enough from the stock, options and forex markets to keep the roof over our heads.  Stay alive by upping the training and maybe doing a biathlon this year (bike ride and run – for people who can’t or won’t do the swim leg of a triathlon).  I thought of adding “keeping the wheelie bin clean at all times” but that’s a bit excessive perhaps.   Maybe I should add “Progress to Black Duct Tape in 2011”.
By the way, we now have 3 wheelie bins – the new addition to our wheelie bin family is a GREEN bin for garden waste.  Talking of gardens, this week sees Doreen’s garden being photographed for “Outdoor Design and Living”.  Hasn’t she done well?  I wonder if there is a mag devoted to Wheelie Bins?  I could have my running repairs featured – “Newbies Guide to Duct Taping Wheelie Bins”.   For those who have seen “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”, you may recall a woman running around Australia pushing a wheelie bin.  No. I don’t know why either, but see the movie, it’s an Aussie classic.
I bought a bike a few weeks ago – well, I will need one if I’m to do the biathlon.  How can a bicycle be worth more than a clunker? (Poor Freddie Falcon – he’s a bit embarrassed at being in the next door garage.) The bicycle weighs next to nothing and they bolt your feet to the pedals.  No I am not kidding. Yes, I fell off the first time I rode the thing – I couldn’t get my feet unclipped when I stopped.  Did you know you have to get a fitting when you get one of these things?  I was fitted by illustrator, author, designer and cyclist, John Danalis author of “Riding the Black Cockatoo” which you can find at http://www.allenandunwin.com/default.aspx?page=94&book=9781741753776
The sounds of summer arrived on Australia Day, when our glamorous neighbours came and used the pool.  I am now officially known as “The Pool Boy”.  We had to ask Alberto not to walk on the water (remember he was born above a stable).  He does tend to show off in front of the ladies.  I learned a new piece of ‘Strine (Australian) from him.  “Dick togs”.  Honest.
Did you see that Nicole Kidman and her partner have had a baby?  Well, she didn’t actually have it – she had a “gestational carrier”.  I wonder if there’s a market for old pool boys? I can see it now - “Leaf carrier for rent. Big dick togs. Most areas covered. No flocking mud.”  (Perhaps I should clarify the “big” in “dick togs” – it refers to the togs.)
Ooooooh!
Wheelie Bins, Duct Tape and Bike

Country Parking
Jesus Saves and Pollutes

Some bumper stickers and car nonsense for you.  Driving to Christmas Creek road an hour or two outside Brissie last weekend, we came across someone who parks even worse than I do if you can believe that. The "Jesus" van was less than sensitive to the environment - we are looking for a miracle to sort this one out by the way if the Good Lord reads this blog.
